I got a chance to check out a few pre-release units at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and it really does seem like Planet Computer has delivered on most of its promises. The little computer dual boots Google Android 7.1 and Debian Linux. It has a keyboard that’s a little cramped, but which is pretty responsive… and familiar to anyone who’s ever used an old Psion handheld. Planet Computer hired the designer of the Psion Revo and Series 5 keyboard to help design the Gemini PDA.

It’s probably too early to write off Windows 10 on ARM as a failed venture. There are certainly some limitations, but increased competition in the chip space is a good thing. I look forward to the day when Qualcomm or other chip makers start to offer a Windows-compatible solution that’s competitive with the latest offerings from Intel and AMD. Unfortunately, based on my experience with the Asus NovaGo, it doesn’t seem like the Snapdragon 835 is that chip.
Blackview BV5500 will try to win some hearts with its sleek design and pretty aesthetic surface texture. The design is a breath of fresh air in a crowded rugged smartphone market and it will be a great entry point if you’re new to the Android platform. That is because the most-outstanding aspect with it will surely be the pricing.
Like many of Nintendo’s products, the Game Boy’s simple exterior and interface belied a great versatility. The little device was capable of doing far more than just play games. Part of this was due to Game Boy designer Gunpei Yokoi’s philosophy of "Lateral Thinking with Withered Technology", or using old technology in new ways. Because the Game Boy was built off of somewhat outdated tech, it was adaptable in ways more advanced devices couldn’t be. This led to a proliferation of oddball accessories, modifications, and attempts to turn the humble Game Boy into something resembling a modern smartphone.
Along with the screwdriver, Ulefone includes lots of accessories in the box with the phone, such as two different power adapters to enable you to change it with a USB charger, if you forgot the Type-C one provided.
The seven-hour battery life could be better, but the integrated 4G and two biometric options are welcome additions. It’s still a better machine for work than play, but it is good enough to pull double duty unless all you want to do is watch videos from across the room.
A) the prices will definitely come down, the initial devices are premium builds, but I can definitely see the prices in between $400-$500 for 5G LTE capable devices, maybe 11″ screens with Polaris. B) ARM chips are guaranteed to become faster, and Qualcomm even has specially designed chips for Windows 10 in the works, the 850 and the beastly SD1000. C) MS has ARM64 support for the store coming this fall with RS5, and the MSIX packaging format should make distribution of both ARM64 alongside x64 applications very easy. MSIX was recently added to MS Store. MS has given the proper tools to the devs, rest is up to them. However as more and more devs create Hololens 2 mixed reality apps, they would be trained to include an ARM64 binary, since Hololens 2 is guaranteed to be ARM64.
